Hello again everyone had some time on my hands and decided to watch a film and write another review. In this review we give our take on an Australian SciFi/Horror film called Infini.

Setup:

It is the 23rd century and 95% of the human population live at or below the poverty line. People take on high risk off planet work in order to obtain a better life. How they are transported is via Slipstream in which travelers are converted into data streams and sent to the location. We are introduced to Whit Carmichael who has recently joined the West Coast Search and Rescue team and is on his first day on the job. Bad things happen to another team that has returned from the Station Infini and the facility is put into lethal lockdown. A team mate using an illegal slipstream box sending Whit to Infini. Cut to the East Coast Search and Rescue team who is now given the mission to find Whit and stop a cargo of potentially dangerous material from coming to Earth.

Quick Synopsis:

The team arrives on site with the station frozen with the exception of the furnace room that Whit has locked himself into(Whit due to the quick explanation arrived onsite 1 week prior to the team’s arrival despite the lethal lockdown at the West Coast facility happening minutes prior). After making contact with Whit the power returns and the horror show that is the station is finally revealed with gore and strange ooze all about the location. The team converses with Whit who tells them what has happened to the miners and other team that arrived before him. The Captain demands Whit stop the cargo and briefly the team separates as some member go to another location to assist Whit in stopping the cargo from shipping. After stopping the shipment a deranged and newly defrosted mining survivor attacks and kills the Captain before being shot by one of the S&R team spraying everyone with his blood. This starts the fun with the infection that caused the miners to go nuts starts to affect the team. There are brief periods of action and tension and I won’t go into the spoiler territory but will say don’t go looking for gore since there is very little.

Score Card:

Concept: Infini almost borrows some aspects of “The Thing” with the lifeform infecting its host and has the air of paranoia that made “The Thing” a great watch. The film’s concept of sending the S&R team in to rescue Whit and stop the cargo is standard for the genre however the concept behind what the lifeform does and is trying to accomplish makes this film worth a watch. For concept Infini gets 4 out of 5.

Implementation: This film with the exception of the ending does what it sets out to do very well. You can sense how the characters are being affected and how some of them become more and more paranoid as the infection sinks in. The ending was a bit weaksauce but the overall film was worth a watch. For implementation it gets 4 out of 5.

Overall: I had fun watching Infini and at first was going to chalk it up to a background noise movie as I painted some minis. I actually got sucked into it as the story progressed and found myself enjoying the movie. For Overall it gets a 4 out of 5.

Right now preparations are still ongoing for the G’Kar Prime campaign as we are all painting up models and getting things ready. We will be ordering scenery and other pieces as well though we are on the fence about battlemats since they usually are only 6×4 and it is looking like most of the battles will be around 3K per side and we need the extra 2 feet of space that our 8×4 table gives us for maneuver room.
